Resonance

what is resonance?

Resonance is a free, all-ages event at St. Brigid’s that builds community through creative expression.

It’s a space for all creatively-inclined people — artists, musicians, writers, and more — to showcase their work and to practice spontaneous creation together.

It’s not quite an open mic, jam session, drum circle, or art night — but it has elements of all of these! And everyone who comes is welcome to participate as much or as little as they choose. If you’d prefer to just come and enjoy the vibe and performances, you are welcome to do that too!

How does it work?

At Resonance, we’ll have the space set up with musical instruments, art and craft supplies, and microphones for vocalists or spoken word. All of these items are free to use for all participants.

Every event is unique and a bit different, but generally everyone who is interested can take a turn leading the group. During their slot, the leader is free to lead the group however they’d like. They can perform one of their own pieces or a cover, and invite others to join in the performance. Or they can lead an improvisation or other spontaneous creation project. The only rule is that everyone should be free to participate!

All of our Resonance events have a set start and ending time, but you can come at any time during the event.

what if I don’t play an instrument or have artisitic abilities?

We believe very strongly that all of us are gifted with creative abilities and talents. While some people have put more time into learning certain skills, that does not mean that they are the only ones who should be able to express themselves in a creative setting.

To be a leader, you simply need to have an idea for something you’d like to do or create. The rest of the group will help and support you in making it happen! Resonance is a safe place for experimentation and exploration. But also know that you are welcome to participate in whatever ways you are comfortable.
